In celebrating International Women’s Day 2023, some of the Rail Planning team attended Engineers Australia’s IWD Sydney event. The keynote speaker, Michelle Payne OAM, shared her amazing story – the path that lead to her 2015 Melbourne Cup win. Along with the grit, determination, dedication and broken bones, one of her key messages was OPPORTUNITY.
While IWD is a day for celebrating the achievements of women, it’s also a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
Looking a little closer to home, while we appreciate the women of Rail Planning Services, it’s been some time since we’ve had a female new starter. Being open to diversity, equality and inclusion is not the same as actively working towards them. This has given us pause, and the prompt to review what we offer, how we offer it and our recruiting processes.
