Team Ingenium had the pleasure of attending the 2025 Permanent Way Institution (PWI NSW) Annual Convention in Newcastle, a standout event for rail professionals across Australia.
With the theme “Rail Crossroads: The Freight v Passenger Debate” the convention brought together industry leaders, engineers and innovators to explore how rail continues to shape our communities and infrastructure.
From the insightful keynote by Wayne Johnson (GAICD) to technical sessions on freight corridor criticality, challenges of highspeed rail, and a session on the dark art of traction power modelling, the program delivered a wealth of valuable takeaways. It was especially inspiring see how collaboration is driving smarter, more resilient rail networks.
A special mention to the crew who attended the Women in Rail breakfast. Your support and enthusiasm made the event even more meaningful. It was fantastic to see a 50/50 gender split in attendance.
A huge thank you to Jacqueline Linke, the keynote speaker at the breakfast, for sharing such powerful insights and inspiration. Was awesome to hear.
A special mention to our own Mike Hickey, who presented a paper on his personal reflections on the rail industry vs the law. A captivating journey.
The learning and networking opportunities throughout the convention were equally rewarding — reconnecting with colleagues, meeting new faces, and exchanging ideas to help move our industry forward. We’re looking forward to applying the insights gained and continuing the conversation.
