Catherine Hill Bay Jetty is a disused and dilapidated mining jetty located in Catherine Hill Bay, Lake Macquarie, NSW.  Built in 1974, the jetty was used to load coal until the early 2000s when mining in the area ceased. The condition of the jetty had significantly deteriorated, and a structural condition assessment found it posed a significant public safety risk.

The NSW Government proposed to remove the jetty to address the pressing safety concern. This was a contentious issue among local community members due to the significance of the jetty as an iconic landmark, and the critical role the jetty (and previous jetties in this location) played in the town’s mining history.

Ingenium was engaged by NSW Public Works to support the project team in informing and consulting with local stakeholders and community as part of the Planning Process for the removal of Catherine Hill Bay Jetty.

Our scope of work includes:

  • strategic engagement advice
  • preparing community engagement materials for consultation (letters, web copy, FAQs, information boards, surveys)
  • facilitating stakeholder meetings and events
  • briefing project teams
  • event Management
  • preparing and finalising the Engagement Outcomes Report.
